Bryan and Karla Barnes
Bryan is our Founder and CEO and Karla is our Accountant and Assistant Director.
Bryan Barnes is the Founder of Safe Haven Sustainable Farms in central CA whose ministries include Growing In Torah (a training program for college-age adults), Messiah West Coast (summer youth camp), and Hebrew Roots Bible Study which hosts the Biblical feasts and festivals. He grew up on a farm in a nearby town, and his family was deeply involved in ministry. After obtaining a B.S. degree in Aviation Technology, and working as a corporate pilot/instructor for many years, he got back into farming. It was around this time that his journey with Torah began, and the Father gave him the vision to share what he was learning with those who will lead us into the future – our youth. He is passionate about teaching the next generation the habits of righteousness found in creation through agricultural practices. Bryan has been married to his wife, Karla, for twenty-seven years. They have three married daughters and four grandchildren. Karla has mostly been a “stay at home” mom who homeschooled her children. While she has helped in every aspect of the farm, she stays busy with the administrative side of Safe Haven Sustainable Farms, mostly with bookkeeping, writing/editing the monthly newsletter, and organizing the day-to-day operations of Growing in Torah. Karla is also a gifted pianist, and enjoys playing for praise and worship times in their local fellowship, GIT, as well as the various Feasts and Festivals held on the farm. Karla is passionate about impacting the next generation to be sold out to YHVH, and for them to realize the abundant life that HE alone offers.
Joseph and Elí Williams have been involved with the Growing in Torah program for 4 and 2 years, respectively. Joseph is the Hebrew teacher for GIT, helps with construction projects, and he’s managing the vineyard as he has spent much time volunteering in the vineyards in Israel. Elí is a busy wife and mama, Joseph’s sidekick Hebrew teacher, and our Dairy Manager. She was raised on a farm, and was the milkmaid along with her sister for many years. Their son Moshe was born a week before Shavuot last year, and they have another baby on the way! They have taken on more Safe Haven responsibility in 2020 and have been a tremendous blessing to the whole team. They love volunteering with GIT and seeing how the Father works in each person’s life through the GIT program.
Joseph and Elí Williams
Joseph and his wife Elí serve on staff in a variety of ways. Joseph helps with new building projects and manages the vineyard, and Elí is our Dairy Manager.
Katherine is the All-Purpose Assistant.
Katherine is a graduate of the Growing in Torah program. She’d never really farmed prior to her life at GIT, but discovered how fulfilling farming could be. After spending two years as a student, she realized there was great opportunity to serve Yah’s people both physically and spiritually at Safe Haven. She has been on staff since 2017, serving in various capacities.
Mary was born and raised in a small agricultural community in central Pennsylvania, in Amish country. Growing up on a farm, she has always had a passion for living a sustainable and simple life. She first attended Growing in Torah as a student in 2016, and grew to love and support the organization. She recently returned in 2018, and is serving as Kitchen Manager, where it is her joy to prepare and serve clean and healthy food from fresh, homegrown produce.
Mary keeps the farm running by feeding us!
Anna Zimmerman will be sharing the story of Safe Haven and Growing in Torah by her artistic talents in videography.
Anna Zimmerman is also a graduate of the Growing in Torah program. She’s a native of Alberta Canada. Coming to Growing in Torah has inspired her with the need for young adults to know how life can be living in the calling you have been called to. She’s joining the crew as the Student Recruitment Specialist.
